Kanazawa Higashi Chaya District

A long day of travel brought me from Sapporo up in Hokkaido down to the city of Kanazawa on the island of Honshu. The guesthouse that I was staying in was very close to the Higashi Chaya teahouse district and the next morning I got up early to photograph the area before the other tourists showed up. Kanazawa escaped the bombings of World War 2 and consequently has a few well-preserved sections of the city where you can see traditional Japanese buildings from the Edo Period. The Higashi Chaya district is one of those places and although none of the businesses were yet open for the day it was neat to be wandering around that place all by myself. The only thing I regret is not coming back later to check out the businesses once they were open. I’ll need to rectify that mistake when I return to Kanazawa this year.
