Kanazawa Kenrokuen Garden

In the middle of Kanazawa is the Kenrokuen Garden, which is regarded as one of the best landscape gardens in Japan. The garden is right next to Kanazawa Castle and I parked my bicycle in the lot between the two of them since I was going to visit one and then the other. It was a warm day in Kanazawa and I was a little sweaty from cycling up the hill to the garden but there were plenty of shady spots for me to cool off in. Though I’m no expert in judging gardens I can say that the Kenrokuen was definitely the best one that I saw in Japan and I particularly liked the trees that required wooden posts to keep their branches from drooping. I think those trees are called Karaski Pines. When I’m back in Kanazawa this year it will be during autumn and I’m hoping that the tree leaves will have started to change colors by the time I arrive. If so, then I’ll have some really colorful photos to share when I return from my trip.
