After passing through the area around Motomachi Park I kept walking northwest into the part of Hakodate that is towards the northern slope of the mountain. This part of Hakodate is mostly residential and doesn’t get many outside visitors. Near the Old Russian Consulate I stopped by Yamanouedai Shrine, which I’ll be covering in a separate post next week. In this part of Hakodate there’s also a large graveyard with a cluster of Buddhist temples around it. I wanted to take a look inside the temples but there was a funeral going on when I was there so I decided it would probably was best to try coming back later.

Though I would have liked to explore the area a little longer, in the early afternoon my time was up and I walked down to Oomachi Station on the Hakodate tramline to catch a ride to Hakodate Station. There I’d board a train out to Onuma Park, where I’d spend the rest of the day before returning to the city.
