Seoul 2019: Namdaemun Market (남대문시장)

On my way to Seoul Station I passed through the Namdaemun Market. There are about 10,000 stores in Namdaemun, making it the largest traditional market in Korea. It’s also believed to be the oldest market in Korea, having been originally started at around the year 1414 by King Taejong who set aside this part of Seoul for the market that would become Namdaemun. The sections of the market that I walked through were mostly dedicated to food, clothing, and accessories, though I also saw some stores selling kitchenware, flowers, and artwork. While I’m not much of a bargain hunter myself, if I was the kind of person who enjoyed shopping I’d probably have a good time exploring Namdaemun and hunting down the best deals.
