A storm was passing through Fukuoka and I ducked into Kushida Shrine to get out of the rain for a minute. Kushida was founded the year 757 and it is one of the most popular shrines in the city. Two of Fukuoka’s major summer festivals, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa and the Hakata Okunchi, use Kushida Shrine as one of their primary venues. Near the shrine’s main hall is an ancient ginkgo tree that is said to be about 1,000 years old.

Great pictures. 🙂 I visited in 2018, thinking I’d be done in 10 minutes. But there was surprisingly a lot of things to see and photographs.

Yeah, I had that experience quite a few times in Japan where I stopped by a smaller shrine and found that there was a lot more to see than I had expected. Glad you’re enjoying the photos.
