Japan Dazaifu Kazeonji Temple

As I walking around Dazaifu I stopped briefly at Kazeonji Temple. This temple was first built in 746 and during the period of Dazaifu’s prominence it was the most important temple on the island of Kyushu. As Dazaifu’s fortunes faded, so did Kazeonji’s, and most of the original temple buildings were lost over the centuries. On the temple grounds you can find a more modern looking building which is a small museum housing artifacts from the temple’s heyday.
