When I left Ginkakuji I began heading south, walking along a route called the Philosopher’s Path. This 2 km walking trail begins near Ginkakuji and ends a bit north of Eikando Temple, and became known as the Philosopher’s Path because of a famous Japanese philosopher that would walk this pathway on his commute to Kyoto University. The Philosopher’s Path follows a canal through a pleasant part of Kyoto and in the springtime it attracts many visitors that come here to view the cherry blossom trees that line the pathway.

As I came down to the southern end of the Philosopher’s Path the last rays of sun had disappeared and nighttime had set in. It would have been nice to walk the entire pathway while it was still bright outside but I had gotten a lot of sightseeing done that day and I feeling pretty good overall.
