Hakone 2019: Hakone Checkpoint (箱根関所)

At Hakone-machi I got off the sightseeing boat to pay a visit to the reconstruction of the Hakone Checkpoint. Hakone used to be on an old road connecting Tokyo and Kyoto and the checkpoint was set up to control the flow of people and goods between the cities. At the checkpoint people would have their paperwork reviewed and their inventory would be inspected. The reconstruction of the checkpoint was completed in 2007 and is a very close copy of the original.
