I’m never going to be running marathons, swimming long distances in the ocean, cycling up mountains, or anything that the hardcore fitness people do, but this summer I’ve been trying to get out more and ratchet up the intensity of my workouts a little. At the gym I’m lengthening my workouts about 15-30 minutes and on Saturdays I’m trying to go for hour-long bike rides in my neighborhood, weather permitting. I’m also making some slight adjustments to my eating habits, though I’ll quickly concede that I ought to be changing my diet even more than I am. My body has never been all that strong, and I know that I’m not going to suddenly gain the physique of Chris Hemsworth, but hopefully around the end of August I’ll have something to show for all of this. The tough part will be maintaining discipline.
