Along the route from the main part of Venice north up to Murano Island the ferry made a stop at the cemetery island of San Michele. In 2015 I got off the ferry here and spent an hour looking around before boarding the next ferry to Murano but on this trip we didn’t have time to pay a visit. If you’re in Venice yourself and you’re curious I can say that it’s a very pretty cemetery and it’s where a lot of Venetians have been buried. As you can imagine, there’s not a lot of spare room on Venice’s main islands so they’ve had to bury a lot of their dead on this island. I’ve included several photos from 2015 in today’s post so you can see what the inside of the cemetery looks like.
