Since I had arrived in Kamakura later in the afternoon I wasn’t able to do a lot of sightseeing at the town’s temples but it did mean I’d conveniently be around to take in the sunset on the beach. From the area around the Great Buddha I walked down to what I believe was Yuigahama Beach. The sun had already disappeared behind the hills to the west and the horizon was turning orange and yellow as the light grew dimmer. One by one, Kamakura’s surfers were slowly starting to come back to the shore. A cool sea breeze was finally bringing relief from the day’s heat and as I stood on the beach watching the scene around me I pulled out my phone and took a short video of the waves streaming across the dark sands with the colored sky in the background. I’ve still got that 14-second video on my phone and from time to time I’ll watch it to remember that evening on the beach.
