Right in the middle of Nikko’s World Heritage Sites is a short road that’s one of my favorite places in Nikko. It’s a straight path that’s less than a thousand feet long and lined with tall trees. The eastern half of the road has a pair of small streams that flow on either side and you can catch a glimpse of Toshogu’s pagoda peaking through the trees as the road passes nearby it. I like to walk this road since it’s normally not crowded and in the evening after Nikko’s shrines have closed it’s usually completely vacant. It doesn’t take long to get from one end of the road to the other, but there’s something strangely rejuvenating about it and I always feel better after walking this road.
