While there are buses in Hiraizumi, I decided to walk from Motsuji Temple to my next destination in town. Part of this was because my next bit of sightseeing was less than a mile away, and part of it was because I find the less urban parts of Japan to be some of the more pleasant parts of the country. Like many smaller towns in Japan, in Hiraizumi you’ll pass by small rice fields right next to houses and local shrines that don’t get many foreign visitors. All of the residents seem to be doing their respective roles to keep the town clean and well maintained. My walk through Hiraizumi to the next sightseeing locale didn’t last long, but it was a nice intermission.
