Nara 2019: Excavation Site

Nearby Todaiji Temple I came across an archeological excavation site. While many of Nara’s historic treasures have survived to this day, some were invariably destroyed over the centuries and their remains are just recently being rediscovered. If I remember correctly, this particular site is thought to be where a pagoda and some smaller buildings once stood. Perhaps one day the city will try to rebuild whatever structures used to be here.
