Just a few minutes south on foot from Shimogamo Shrine in the Tadasu-no-Mori Forest is Kawai-jinja Shrine. This little shrine is dedicated to the Shinto guardian of women and god of beauty, and consequently it’s a popular shrine for girls. On small mirror-shaped wooden tablets you can draw your ideal face and pray that your real face will become like it.
