While I was taking shelter from the storm up at Owakudani I bought a bag of Hakone Black Eggs. There are pools of water near the Owakudani crater and the heat from the underground magma keeps the water at a very hot temperature. Eggs boiled in these volcanic pools have their shells turned black from sulfur in the water and you can purchase bags of these black eggs from the visitor center at Owakudani. It is said that eating one of these eggs adds seven years to your life. Before leaving Hakone I would eat all five of the eggs in my bag. I don’t know if eating multiple black eggs grants you seven years per egg but I’m just going to assume that’s the case.
