After checking out the Star Wars exhibit in the underground tunnels I made my way up to the surface and found that I was on the western side of Tokyo Station. This massive train station is the primary inter-city rail terminal in Tokyo and in 2012 its western side was remodeled to look the way Tokyo Station appeared before it was destroyed in World War 2. I really like the way that this part of Tokyo Station looks, with the red bricks adding a nice touch of color to the otherwise grey landscape.
Outside Tokyo Station there was a clock counting down the days until the Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to being. Of course, neither I nor anyone at Tokyo Station that day knew that at that very moment COVID was exploding out of China and would end up delaying the Tokyo Olympics by a full year.
