On my second and final morning in Hakodate I walked down to the daily Morning Market to see what the local fishermen and farmers had brought in that day. Hakodate’s Morning Market runs everyday from around 6am to noon with seafood and produce being the two most common things for sale. In addition to all the vendors you can also find a number of small restaurants at the Morning Market that offer fresh seafood breakfasts. In 2017 I visited Hakodate’s Morning Market and had the novel experience of catching a squid and eating squid sashimi a minute later but in 2019 I decided not to repeat this because the fishermen with the squid tank had become extremely popular since my first visit and there was a big line in their area of the market. I guess if I’m ever back in Hakodate and want to catch another squid I’ll need to show up earlier to get ahead of the crowd.
