Having left Matsumoto behind, the next stop on my journey across Japan and Korea was going to be the city of Nagano. The train ride between Matsumoto and Nagano is a little under an hour and while on the train I tried out a Japanese drink that I had seen in vending machines but up until then I had never tried it. That beverage was Real Gold, a carbonated energy drink that comes in a small can. I remember Real Gold tasting kind of like Coca-Cola but with a fruity flavor, which makes sense because Real Gold is manufactured by Coca-Cola Japan. It takes a tremendous amount of caffeine, sugar, or other stimulants to have any effect on my body, so I’m the wrong person to ask about how potent Real Gold is, but I did like the flavor and I’ll definitely have another can whenever I’m next in Japan.
