In the middle of Paris is Ile de la Cité, an island in the Seine River. It was here that the medieval city of Paris was founded and today both the island and the banks of the Seine are pleasant places to walk and sightsee. Ile de la Cité has a few attractions but easily the most famous is Notre Dame Cathedral, which is regarded as one of the greatest gothic churches in the world. A visit to the island of Ile de la Cité is part of the quintessential Paris experience in my opinion and each time I’ve visited Paris in the past I frequently seem to somehow end up back there. It’s like the city keeps calling me back to this one spot.
